Tight Ends (3)

Pat Freiermuth, Zach Gentry, Connor Heyward

The tight end position is pretty straightforward this year. The most notable loss from the 2021 season was Eric Ebron; however, Pat Freiermuth’s selection last year made Ebron expendable as the Steelers made no efforts to re-sign him. But he was expendable by the end of the 2021 season.

The Steelers will keep four tight ends out of the five on the roster. Pat Freiermuth is the clear number one tight end and had a very productive rookie season. He should only improve from here. He had 60 receptions for 497 yards and seven touchdowns, with 34 of his reception resulting in a first down.

Connor Heyward is the newest addition, and it’s hard to see the steelers cut him before the start of the season. The Steelers may experiment with him a lot in pre-season. Mike Tomlin loves his versatility. Plus, you could expect to see the Steelers try him out as a fullback, and we will play a lot of special teams because of Heyward’s selection that may make Jace Sternberger and Kevin Rader the lone casualties in trimming down the roster to 53.

Zach Gentry and Kevin Rader should round out the group coming in on situational downs over the season or filling in should someone get injured.
