The Pittsburgh Steelers still have room to improve, but these three positions are currently the strongest on the team following the draft.

Despite making the playoffs following the 2021 season, the Pittsburgh Steelers were a bit underwhelming. Their offense severely lacked firepower and their run defense plummeted to the worst in the league.

Fortunately, they’ve made some pretty drastic transformations on the roster. While it still remains to be seen how some of these new players will mesh, Pittsburgh helped turn a few positions around. Here are the Steelers three strongest positions following the 2022 NFL Draft:

Steelers wide receivers

I thought the Steelers wide receiver corps had some potential last season, but they were ultimately pretty underwhelming. There were a couple of reasons for this. For starters, Ben Roethlisberger’s play – specifically the ability to throw the ball down the field — took a nosedive. In addition, JuJu Smith-Schuster landing on IR with a shoulder injury didn’t help a group that already lacked depth.

While Chase Claypool had a bit of a regression last season after a remarkable rookie year, I’m willing to bet he returns to form with a QB that will better fit his skill set in 2022. I also believe that George Pickens and Calvin Austin could be an instant upgrade over a banged-up JuJu and a lackluster Ray-Ray McCloud.

This doesn’t even include adding core special teamers like Gunner Olszewski and Miles Boykin this offseason. A core of Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool, George Pickens, and Calvin Austin is both young and impressive with lots of room to grow.
