Steelers interior defensive line

I know this group wasn’t spectacular in 2021, but there is plenty of reason to believe that it will be this year. A lot of this hinges on a decision from Stephon Tuitt. After taking the 2021 season off, there’s no guarantee that he will be returning to the field this year.

Even if he doesn’t this could still be one of the strongest positional groups on the team. Last year, Tuitt and Tyson Alualu were both out of commission and their depth was really lacking. This was particularly noticeable in run defense as they were routinely gouged in this department.

Now not only is the depth stronger on the interior defensive line but there are a few young players who will be ready to step into steady rotational roles — giving the veterans a break. Isaiahh Loudermilk started seeing the field in a larger capacity later last season. He and rookie DeMarvin Leal could have sizable roles in 2022.

The collection of Cameron Heyward, Chris Wormley, Tyson Alualu, Isaiahh Loudermilk, and DeMarvin Leal gives the Steelers a strong group of defensive lineman to work with. It could potentially be one of the best in the league if Stephon Tuitt returns.
