Steelers finalize stadium name change, drawing the ire of fans
Heinz Field Steelers home forever
Ok, the Steelers will not cancel their deal with Acrisure anytime soon. You might as well accept that fact. That said, the name Heinz Field is not going away anytime either. Fox, CBS, NBC, ESPN, and Amazon Prime will call it Acrisure Stadium. The Steelers will place it in their annual media guide and website.
However, at that point, no one else has an obligation to call it Acrisure Stadium. No one is going to force you to call it Acrisure Stadium. When you hail a taxi, book an Uber, or ride the bus, you’ll say take me to Heinz Field. Anytime you head that way, you will tell your family and friends, I’m going down to Heinz Field.
That feeling explains the next thing that popped up online. In addition to the petition came the tee shirts. At Heavenshirt.com, you can get the tee shirt that says I’m Still Calling it Heinz Field.
While the new name will stick around for a while, the name Heinz field will linger for a few decades more. Nonetheless, within the uproar of those angry fans, Bill Cowher attempted a positive spin on the news. Noting the name is not important, he said “You can call it whatever you want, but you’re going to feel it as an opponent walking in there and walking out of there losing.”
Bill Cowher made a good point; we may quibble over the name, but as long as the opponents who walk out there get an old-fashioned beating, that’s all that will matter in the end. Or perhaps one suggestion to make everyone happy just call it Acrisure Stadium at Heinz Field, problem solved.
