Pittsburgh Steelers pre-training camp 53-man roster prediction
By Tommy Jaggi
Safeties (4):
Minkah Fitzpatrick, Terrell Edmunds, Damontae Kazee, Miles Killebrew
At the moment, the safety position is looking pretty straightforward for the Pittsburgh Steelers. In one of his first moves as general manager, Omah Kahn made Minkah Fitzpatrick the highest-paid safety in the NFL. He won’t leave the field for anything other than an injury.
Just before the 2022 NFL Draft, the Steelers were able to come to terms with Terrell Edmunds. He will re-join Fitzpatrick as the starting safety in the secondary. Edmunds didn’t sign for a lot of money, but the job is his to lose and after another pretty strong season in 2021, Edmunds is projected to hold down the fort at strong safety.
The final two safeties I have making the roster are newcomer Damontae Kazee and special teams stud Miles Killebrew. The Steelers never keep more than four at the position, and it would take a huge performance from an underdog to even contend for one of the final roster spots at this position.
Kazee can backup either safety spot, while Killebrew can play in the box and excel on special teams. This unit looks pretty much set as of now.
