Cornerbacks (5):

Ahkello Witherspoon, Cameron Sutton, Levi Wallace, Tre Norwood (CB/S), Arthur Maulet

This is a position where the depth starts to get a little scary. It’s also the hardest position on the roster to predict. I think the top four players in this group are a lock, but it gets really dicey after that.

The Steelers re-signed Ahkello Witherspoon to be a starting outside CB in 2022. They also added former Bills, CB Levi Wallace, to compete for the starting gig on the outside opposite of Witherspoon. The right cornerback position could go to Sutton if he outperforms Wallace, but Sutton is expected to be the nickel cornerback in sub-packages.

Outside of these three, hybrid defensive back, Tre Norwood, is a lock to make the team after a promising rookie year. Norwood offers depth to both the cornerback and free safety position as well as does work in dime packages.

This is where it gets really hard to predict. I have the Steelers keeping just five cornerbacks this year. Arthur Maulet gets the nod as the final guy thanks to his ability to kick inside and play the run from the slot CB position. This means that James Pierre and Justin Layne would be headed to the practice squad and promoted in the event of an injury.
