Isaiahh Loudermilk is expected to help fill the void on the defensive line
The defensive line is coming off one of the most embarrassing performances by the group in decades. Some might even consider it the worst run defense in franchise history for the Steelers. The fact that the club made their run defense almost second nature created even more disappointment.
Missing both Stephon Tuitt and Tyson Alualu did put them behind the eight ball, but there seemed to be many factors as to why they struggled in 2021. Hopefully, with more depth and veterans returning, this run defense issue will be resolved this season. There are a mix of veterans and young emerging players along the defensive trenches for Pittsburgh.
One player that many in the media have been talking about a lot is Isaiahh Loudermilk. The second-year man out of Wisconsin had a slow start to his NFL career before finishing strong at the end of his rookie season. Many think that he will begin to take over for Alualu as the schedule progresses further.
That is a high mark to ask from this young lineman that has put on more weight and seems to do well against the run. That was one of Loudermilk’s strong abilities throughout his rookie season. He will need to show more in his pass rush repertoire before every down starter is deemed for him.
The Steelers have some young and upcoming talent that should have their best season yet. It will be interesting to see how these returning players evolve heading into big years for their careers.
