Diontae Johnson could be traded if Pittsburgh gets a Claypool-like deal

One of the more disappointing performances this season was Diontae Johnson. After signing a new two-year deal this past offseason, this wideout was not able to score any touchdowns this year. Johnson should not take on the full blame as the offense struggled to distribute the ball and could not cash in when they got in the red zone.

The emergence of George Pickens could also lend to this thought process of putting Johnson on the trade block. Both are number one options on offense and this group needs some balance to it. Taking away a target from Pickett might not seem like the wisest choice, but it would give the club a better chance to improve at other spots on the roster.

Trading with Chicago earlier in the season could make this an interesting option for Pittsburgh. The Steelers were able to get a second-round pick for a young player that had limited production in recent years. Johnson is a much more proven player and could bring a better return under the right circumstances.

Looking into this potential deal might be strongest around draft season, so pay close attention. This receiver has also brought different headaches off the field with different social media posts that could be seen as different slights to the franchise. If a trade was done and the Steelers got a high draft pick in return, expect the club to replace Johnson with that selection.
