The Pittsburgh Steelers could not have asked for anything more from their former third-round pick than what they got from him in 2022. Though he didn’t always win consistently as a pass-rusher, he finished the season with 14.5 sacks and a league-leading 5 forced fumbles in 17 games this past year, per ESPN stats.

While this didn’t earn him Pro Bowl honors for his efforts during the 2022 season, he was certainly on the cusp of consideration. In addition to his impressive raw numbers, Highsmith earned a thoroughly impressive sack score, according to Brandon Thorn, that ranked 4th in the NFL — just behind Myles Garrett and just ahead of Micah Parsons and Nick Bosa.

The hardest part about Alex Highsmith’s Pro Bowl chances is that he already has a perennial All-Pro playing opposite of him in T.J. Watt. The 2021 Defensive Player of the Year is much more likely to be voted to the Pro Bowl each season, and it’s hard to get two Pro Bowlers from the same team who play the same position.

Still, Highsmith is trending toward the Pro Bowl, and with another season like the one he had in 2022, it will be very difficult not to give him the recognition he would deserve.
