Everyone in the NFL world has heard the news about Aaron Rodgers officially joining the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was a move long in the making, but it finally crossed the finish line. Rodgers decided to join the Black and Gold with hopes of gunning for another Super Bowl trophy. The odds of winning a championship are slim, especially with some ongoing issues littering the roster.

Don't be shocked if the Steelers do their best to rush into a receiver upgrade with Rodgers on board.

General Manager Omar Khan put his full trust in Rodgers joining the team. Both he and Mike Tomlin believe Rodgers gives them a shot at contending in the playoffs, which means they must assemble the best team around the grizzled veteran. Their gaping hole at the receiver position continues to be a thorn in Khan's side. Pittsburgh will need to locate an upgrade sometime soon.

Here are some potential players they could target.

Pittsburgh Steelers addition of Aaron Rodgers will force them to address the receiver position

Quentin Johnston, WR, Los Angeles Chargers

Room is quickly running out on the Chargers roster for former first-rounder Quentin Johnston. He was a superstar at TCU, but he has not produced a consistent NFL career. Jim Harbaugh wasn't the head coach when Johnston got picked, which many believe could be the final nail in the coffin for the receiver's future in Los Angeles. He could be on the trade block and might be worth the gamble.

Pittsburgh could use more size at the receiver position, and Johnston provides that in bulk.

He will only be 24 years old during the start of the 2025 campaign, which should make him enticing. Johnston has a pedigree Tomlin prefers. He showed flashes of quality play last season with 711 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. If he can work on his drop issues, he could be a cheap addition with a massive payoff for the Steelers.

Romeo Doubs, WR, Green Bay Packers

With Rodgers signing with the Steelers, you'd be nuts not to consider some of his former receivers. Pittsburgh has been linked to different receivers with Green Bay connections ever since the Rodgers rumors started to swirl. Romeo Doubs would make sense whether the future Hall of Fame quarterback was with the team or not. They need reliable veterans for the position.

Doubs might not be as explosive as some might prefer at the position, but he has produced respectable numbers. Outside of his rookie campaign, which he spent with Rodgers, he has struggled in a competitive receiving corps. Doubs has a rapport with the veteran gunslinger and is someone who can jump onto the field for the Steelers on day one and help upgrade the position.

Jalen Tolbert, WR, Dallas Cowboys

Khan just had trade negotiations with the Dallas Cowboys, so why not pick up the phone once again? The Steelers just sent George Pickens to Dallas, and the Cowboys might be inclined to move one of their weapons. Jalen Tolbert is a former third-round pick who started to emerge as a reliable receiver for the team last season.

Pickens will eat his snaps, which could make Tolbert expendable.

Pittsburgh should be on the phone trying to get the Cowboys to trade this receiver for little value. He is coming off a breakout campaign, which saw him produce 610 receiving yards and seven touchdowns through 15 starts. He accomplished those numbers in a boring offense. Tolbert is still young and could be a buy-low option, providing a massive payoff.

Allen Lazard, WR, New York Jets

Outside of adding Doubs in a trade, no other trade candidate has stronger ties to Rodgers than Allen Lazard. The veteran receiver has played his entire seven-year career with the future Hall of Famer as his signal caller. They have followed each other throughout their careers, and it could make sense to have a reunion in Pittsburgh. It might be the most logical and cheap option for the Steelers.

Lazard isn't an elite player, but he knows what Rodgers wants from his receivers. That alone could help the receiving corps adjust to their new quarterback. Lazard has had a forgettable career with the New York Jets to date, but he did slightly rebound in 2024. He wouldn't cost much to acquire, and his contract isn't crazy. If all else fails, the Steelers could do much worse than Lazard.
