Aaron Rodgers could push Steelers to add his most beloved former teammate

Don't expect Rodgers to fall in line with the Steelers just because he's signing.

Everyone is buzzing about Aaron Rodgers finally joining the Pittsburgh Steelers. They don't care if you like the signing or not; he will be the starter for the team moving forward. The future Hall of Fame quarterback took his time deciding in free agency. Rodgers took more than enough time to reflect, but realized joining Mike Tomlin was his best option.

Rodgers has been perceived as a toxic personality with the New York Jets during his two-year stint. New York allowed him to take control of the team. He had control over who the club brought into the building, which Rodgers took advantage of. Tons of his former teammates flooded into the Jets' facility, like Davante Adams and Allen Lazard.

Pittsburgh must be careful with what sort of command they allow Rodgers to have on offense. Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith had a riff with Russell Wilson because the quarterback wanted to change plays at the line of scrimmage. Adding Rodgers won't solve the problem. Instead, it could become an inflated issue with Rodgers at the helm.

No matter who he plays for, expect Rodgers to try and bring a familiar face to town.

Allen Lazard could help make Aaron Rodgers' transition to the Pittsburgh Steelers seamless

With the addition of DK Metcalf, the Steelers don't need to add another receiver. If Pittsburgh wanted to make Rodgers happy, they'd be wild not to consider adding Allen Lazard... if he became available. The veteran receiver hasn't lived up to the big contract the Jets gave him back in 2023. It could make sense for both parties to move on.

Rodgers is comfortable with Lazard, and that history could make Pittsburgh comfortable with making the move.

Everything about this possible addition will depend on what the Jets are willing to do. If you are in Pittsburgh, you'd be insane to consider trading for Lazard and his big contract. If New York decides to cut the veteran receiver, the Steelers should consider signing him. The familiarity between Rodgers and his long-time weapon should produce promising results in their possible transition to a new city.

Lazard has been a reliable player for the veteran quarterback since they have teamed up for 7 years. His numbers were terrific in Green Bay after working from an undrafted free agent to an upcoming star. His production continuously grew until he joined the Jets. Lazard is coming off a promising campaign with Rodgers, but this duo won't be Batman and Robin.

Pittsburgh can only consider adding Lazard if he joins on a cheap contract. The Steelers have young receivers waiting in the wings, like Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson, to take over. Adding Lazard would provide a veteran receiver who knows Rodgers and can play in the slot and outside. He would bring tremendous depth to the club, but a lot would have to happen for him to follow Rodgers.
