Eventually, Pittsburgh agreed to a one-year $4 million deal for the rising star. And every penny was well deserved.Â
It’s apparent the journey thus far means something to Samuel Jr. He’s worked hard to seize another opportunity. And it shows in the reps.Â
Patrick Graham has a few weeks to make magic happen. And I believe his job is harder than most. His tenure as Pittsburgh’s defensive coordinator begins after a turbulent season. In 2025, the Steelers ranked 29th in passing yards allowed per game (244.9), 20th in opposing passer rating (92%). They allowed 30 passing touchdowns, making it difficult to outscore opponents.
Yes, the secondary faced injuries, but it was clear reinforcements were needed.Â
Graham’s hands-on approach is causing the necessary shifts thus far. And breakout performances from role players make the job easier. I believe Asante Samuel could easily rotate consistently at the slot cornerback position with stacked stout outings. It will allow Jalen Ramsey to roam the defense more often.
