The wait is finally over. Shedeur Sanders' draft slide continued all the way into Day 3 but, alas, he has an NFL home.
But, it isn't with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Instead, it's maybe the worst possible landing spot in the minds of Steelers' fans.
The Cleveland Browns took Sanders in the fifth round with the no. 144 overall pick. With that selection, it was abundantly clear that Cleveland finally bit the bullet and took the gamble Pittsburgh was afraid to take all along.
Pittsburgh may have shown interest, but they didn't make the move.
Browns show no fear with Shedeur Sanders after Steelers back away
On one hand, fans might see this as the Steelers making a wise decision and avoiding everything that comes with Sanders. But on the other, the Browns went out of their way to add a fourth quarterback to their roster.
Not only did they trade for Kenny Pickett, but the Browns also signed veteran Joe Flacco earlier in the offseason. Then, the Browns even drafted Dillon Gabriel out of Oregon.
Of course, Deshaun Watson is still on the roster but might not end up playing at all during the 2025 season due to the Achilles injury and surgery.
The Browns' quarterback plans for 2025 aren't exactly clear, but at least they have options.
Meanwhile, the Steelers have Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson. That's it.
For fans who think there's any semblance of a plan with those two, I hate to tell you, but that's blatantly incorrect.
The Steelers, as of right now, have zero plan at the quarterback position. For a team that is set up to win right now with a roster that's talented at many levels, the quarterback room might be the worst in the league.
And, if they're banking on Aaron Rodgers saving them, the Steelers better hope and pray that they're not only right in thinking he's going to choose Pittsburgh, but that he's able to indeed play at a high level in 2025.
