With the 2025 NFL preseason over, we can start counting down the hours until all 32 teams must cut their rosters to just 53 players. Pittsburgh Steelers roster projections are flooding the internet, and I recently gave my final prediction. But those following the team closely can tell that not everyone in the national media has been paying attention.
CBS Sports' Bryan DeArdo recently dropped his Steelers 53-man roster prediction. He had quarterback Will Howard missing the cut, the Steelers releasing veteran defensive tackle Daniel Ekuale, and the team keeping only five cornerbacks. However, DeArdo's boldest prediction came at the wide receiver position.
DeArdo has the Steelers devoting six roster spots to wide receivers. This includes Robert Woods making the team. The 33-year-old veteran has been incredibly underwhelming all summer, and his quiet streak continued into the preseason.
Robert Woods has no business being on a Pittsburgh Steelers 53-man roster prediction
If we're being honest, Woods has gotten by on name recognition alone at this point. The long-time veteran recorded just one reception for four yards in the preseason despite playing 51 snaps over three exhibition games (against backup defensive backs, no less).
Woods showed a lack of explosiveness in his old age, while failing to make an impact among dozens of players who aren't going to make NFL rosters this year. With the Steelers already planning to keep four tight ends on their roster, devoting a sixth spot for a wide receiver isn't in the cards, and it would require a much better option than Woods to devote valuable roster resources in this department.

Additionally, Woods offers limited special teams ability and didn't get much work in this area over the summer. It was also a terrible sign for his chances when the veteran was spotted playing late into preseason games.
Players like Roman Wilson, Calvin Austin III, and Scotty Miller comfortably beat out Woods early at training camp and during the preseason this summer, while Ben Skowronek is expected to stick around because of his special teams ability.
Robert Woods simply isn't worth a roster spot at this stage of his career, and I would be shocked if he somehow landed on the Pittsburgh Steelers' 53-man roster for the 2025 season.
