As we roll into Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft, one name stands out above all others still left on the board: Shedeur Sanders. Once projected to be a top quarterback in this year’s class, Sanders remains unclaimed—and to be honest, it just doesn’t add up. Despite plenty of QB-desperate teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, Sanders continues to tumble.
ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky was clear about his feelings.
“I still believe the player on tape is a second-round player,” Orlovsky said on NFL Live before Day 2 kicked off. And honestly, I couldn’t agree more. The former NFL quarterback didn’t just offer praise. He doubled down, pointing to Sanders’ ability to extend plays, sharp accuracy, and underrated athleticism.
“He’s not a statue,” Orlovsky emphasized, reminding us all that Sanders isn’t just a pocket passer—he’s a creator.
So, how did we get here? How did Sanders—who looked like a lock for at least the second round—get passed over by teams desperate for quarterback help?
Jaxson Dart, Dillon Gabriel, Jalen Milroe, and Tyler Shough all heard their names called. But Sanders? He’s now stuck watching and waiting for Day 3.
The Pittsburgh Steelers can't let Shedeur Sanders fall any further than Round 4
This is not the Pittsburgh Steelers' problem. However, I think it could be beneficial.
Holding pick No. 123 in the fourth round, the Steelers have a golden opportunity staring them in the face. They’ve been methodical in this draft, investing in defense with Derrick Harmon in the first round and reinforcing the run game with Kaleb Johnson in the third. But they still have one glaring need: a young quarterback to groom for the future.
The Steelers must draft Shedeur Sanders if he is available at pick No.123 in the fourth round.
Omar Khan’s approach is focused on discipline and long-term value, and Sanders would fit right in. He’s not required to save the franchise on Day 1. With Mason Rudolph under contract and the Aaron Rodgers rumors looming, Pittsburgh offers the perfect situation for Sanders to sit, learn, and develop.
And let’s be real—if Orlovsky is right, the Steelers won’t just be drafting a backup. They’ll be landing the steal of the 2025 NFL Draft. Shedeur Sanders is a high-value quarterback at a fraction of the cost.
The Sanders’ fall has been a mystery, Pittsburgh might be the answer.
