Not everything is going to plan for Russell Wilson since leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers. He signed with the New York Giants with the belief he would be their starting quarterback this season. He might be the leader in the clubhouse for now, but that could turn in a hurry. A couple of reports out of New York believe the former Steelers signal caller could struggle to hold onto the top job in the Big Apple.
Daniel Jeremiah joined The Rich Eisen Show and made a bold prediction of Wilson losing his starting gig to rookie Jaxson Dart.
"Everything I've read about Dart seems to be pretty positive," Jeremiah said during his appearance on the Rich Eisen Show. "I think he's got a chance to play pretty darn early here. We'll see how it goes."
The Giants are an organization in disarray. Many thought the franchise would fire its top decision-makers going into the offseason, but it did the opposite. Their Head Coach and General Manager have their backs against the wall. They are desperate to win, and it wouldn't be surprising if they give Wilson a short leash.
They must win to retain their jobs, and that could lead to a revolving door at the quarterback spot.
"We'll see how it goes. You just kind of listen to the words of Brian Daboll, and you get the sense that [Dart] was his guy. He's invested in him," Jeremiah claimed. "He seems to really, really like him. He had Josh Allen, and once they got him in there, they were able to learn through some of the mistakes and get to a really good place. It sounds a little different, the way he's talking about [Dart]."
Pittsburgh might've made the right decision by moving away from Wilson as their quarterback. New York hasn't made it to training camp yet, and Wilson's status as the starter is already in question. With Dart in the fold and Jameis Winston competing for a job, there are plenty of options for the Giants to go with.
There is no shortage of troubling reports coming out of New York regarding the former Steelers gunslinger.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson could struggle to hold onto starting job
According to a new report by Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, some within the Giants organization prefer Winston over Wilson as the starter. Training camp and competition are great for all, but when you have three capable starters and no definitive answer at the start of the preseason process, it could lead to disaster. The Big Blue could turn into a big dud with their current path.

Even though there is a growing sense that the top spot on the depth chart remains uncertain for Wilson, he still has the prime position to be the starter. Winston and Dart will be breathing down his neck, but until the losses start to stack up, it would be shocking to see the former Steelers quarterback lose his job. Wilson in New York might produce his swan song as a starting signal caller.
The 13-year veteran has a unique personality, almost like a cartoon character. He struggled to hold the attention of his teammates in Pittsburgh when their losing streak to conclude the season began. His vocal leadership fails when he cannot win football games. New York won't be good this season, and it could get ugly for Wilson in a hurry.
His struggles could open the door for other quarterbacks to compete for the starting job.
One of the key factors contributing to the veteran's decline late in his career is the high number of sacks he takes. The Giants have a poor offensive line, which could make even average pass rushers look effective. While Wilson is likely to make some plays and remain competitive, his tendency to make mistakes while trying to evade pressure may ultimately lead to his downfall in New York.
