The Pittsburgh Steelers are still searching for the offensive spark they’ve been waiting for since the end of the 2023 season. Despite making major changes—hiring offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, and bringing in quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields—the offense remains stagnant, struggling to find consistency and explosion.

The Steelers have playmakers in George Pickens and Pat Freiermuth, but it’s obvious they need more firepower to keep pace with top-tier teams and survive the season.

Steelers need to make a hard inquiry on WR Davante Adams

Pittsburgh understands the need for an outside playmaker, and their reported interest in Las Vegas Raiders veteran Davante Adams is a step in the right direction. Adams, a former second-round pick, has openly voiced his desire for a fresh start with a new franchise, and the Steelers could be an ideal landing spot.

The 31-year-old receiver is hungry to win, and his experience and elite skill set would instantly elevate Pittsburgh’s offense. However, the Raiders are reportedly asking for at least a second-round pick in return for their star wideout—a hefty price for a veteran nearing the latter stages of his career.

The Steelers are no strangers to the value of a second-round pick, having drafted George Pickens with their 2022 second-rounder. Trading for Adams would mean sacrificing the potential to draft a younger, long-term player in exchange for Adams’ immediate impact.

If the Steelers are serious about making a deep playoff push and contending for a Super Bowl this season, Adams’ presence could be the key to unlocking their offensive potential.

Steelers can steal Amari Cooper from divisional rivals

Another option worth considering is Amari Cooper of the Cleveland Browns. The Browns are amid a tough season, and Cooper, like Adams, has expressed interest in seeking greener pastures. Cooper’s production has been nearly identical to Adams’ this season, with both receivers tallying over 205 receiving yards, though Cooper has the edge in targets (47) and touchdowns (2).

As a former first-round pick, Cooper also brings valuable leadership, making him an ideal mentor for Pickens. His work ethic and experience could be what Pittsburgh needs to steady their offense.

The Steelers have limited options for adding a playmaker, but they cannot afford to stand still. The lack of key weapons stunts the development of stars like Pickens and Freiermuth and caps the offense’s potential. GM Omar Khan must make a move soon, whether it’s for Adams, Cooper, or another veteran receiver.

Steelers should be calling the Raiders and Browns to explore trade options is essential before it’s too late to salvage the season.
