In true Pittsburgh fashion, the Steelers allowed one of the worst NFL teams to hang around in a game until the very end. There were plenty of odd calls that the refs made, and some calls were rules that seemed to need an update. Touchdowns were taken away from both clubs in this matchup, allowing the Giants to remain in the thick of it until the final minutes.
Now that the Black and Gold sit at a 6-2 record at their bye week, they have proven they are worth investing in. Omar Khan should recognize this and go out and find a trade or two that will allow his roster a better shot at making some noise in the second half of the schedule, and hopefully the postseason. Finding another receiver remains a top priority before the trade deadline passes.
Perhaps their top trade choice was playing for the other team in Week 8. New York has a lot of quality receivers on offense, and the Steelers had to learn that the hard way. The Giants were able to move the ball rather effectively for most of the contest.
Darius Slayton had a great game and made Donte Jackson look foolish on a couple of explosive plays that went against the home team.
Darius Slayton proved to Steelers he is worth the trade price
New York has a good receiving core, but they have struggled to get the ball due to bad quarterback play. Things seemed to change last night as the black and gold struggled to stop the run and force Daniel Jones into bad situations for the most part. After losing this one, the Giants sit at a 2-6 record. They are one of the worst teams in football, and will probably sell off some pieces before the deadline.
Slayton remains in the rumor mill as he will be a pending free agent once this year concludes. He's a pure rental option, which could be a knock against him coming to Pittsburgh, but the Steelers are starting to run out of quality upgrades on the trade market. He is one of the better receivers still available and he proved that to both sides during this game.
Jackson has been a terrific addition to the Steelers since being traded to the club this past offseason. He had his worst game wearing the black and gold defending Slayton. He allowed plenty of chunk plays to the Giants receiver. Slayton remained a thorn in Pittsburgh's side for most of the game. He alone helped force the Big Blue into relevance until the bitter end.
New York knows they have a good player with Slayton. He is a known commodity around the NFL. He not only proved that to the Giants this past game, but he showed the Steelers what he can do on the field. With the trade deadline coming up on November 5, the Steelers have plenty of time to evaluate their trade options. Slayton showed that he would be a terrific addition to Pittsburgh.
