Fans shouldn't get too high or too low during this part of the offseason process. OTAs are the perfect time to get some newsworthy tidbits about the Pittsburgh Steelers, but it's impossible to ignore football news in The Steel City.
There were a handful of players who made positive strides during the infancy of the Steelers' organized team activities, but Roman Wilson might be the most hyped-up player on the roster.
Pittsburgh used its third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on the young receiver. The Michigan product had a terrific pre-draft process and showed positive signs leading up to training camp. Unfortunately, a lingering injury cut his season short, and he didn't have enough time to recover. His rookie year blew up, but he has a chance not only to earn a starting receiver role but also to become a vital part of the team.
OTAs are nothing more than "football in shorts," as Mike Tomlin likes to call it. There is still plenty to figure out about this team, and one of those remains with their question mark opposite of DK Metcalf. Steelers general manager Omar Khan seems focused on finding George Pickens' replacement on the roster before considering an outside hire.
Wilson might be on track to become their savior.
Roman Wilson conducted a hype train during Pittsburgh Steelers OTAs
Roman Wilson was a highly regarded prospect coming out of the draft, and he was fantastic value when the Steelers selected him. Many have become concerned about his injury risk since joining the team, which has been amplified by his missing his entire rookie campaign. The talent is there for Wilson; he must stay healthy and apply his skills on the field. The opportunity is ripe for the taking.

Not many members of the Steelers have received as many compliments as Wilson during the OTAs. While you can't accomplish much during the voluntary workouts, players are capable of showing how much work they put in during the offseason.
Wilson has received high marks during the practices in Pittsburgh, and many hope that he can take over as the Steelers' second target opposite of Metcalf.
With Pickens out of town, there is a ginormous cavern at the second outside receiver spot opposite Metcalf. Khan appears stuck in a similar situation to last offseason. There is an unfathomable amount of pressure on Wilson and his fellow receivers to replace Pickens. Their failure to accomplish that task could result in a free agent signing or trade acquisition to boost the group.
Wilson is running out of excuses going into his second season in the NFL.
He might've failed to join the team on the field last season, but he gained mental reps. Wilson should use that to his advantage as he hits the field throughout the preseason process. His failure to capture a starting role on offense might shift him into bust territory. He has a prime spot set for him; he must seize his chance.
