You can't convince us the NFL doesn't like its share of drama. On Wednesday, we learned that the Pittsburgh Steelers' Week 1 matchup will be on the road against quarterback Justin Fields and the New York Jets. Fields spurned the Steelers for greener pastures this offseason.

Entering Week 7 of the 2024 season, head coach Mike Tomlin boasted about his decision to roll with Russell Wilson as the starting quarterback. In a corresponding move, Fields was sent to the bench. This came after leading the Steelers to a 4-2 record while chipping in 10 total touchdowns and just one interception.

Despite Wilson's struggles late in the season, Fields was never given another opportunity to prove himself. Now the dynamic quarterback will be looking to stick it to the Steelers in his first-ever game with the Jets.

This in itself is an intriguing storyline... but there could be next-level chaos if Aaron Rodgers joins the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New York Jets Week 1 game could take opening-day drama to new heights

These are the scenarios the NFL lives for. If one bitter quarterback seeking revenge on his former team wasn't enough, what about two?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been the favorites to sign Aaron Rodgers since before the NFL Draft, and if this comes to fruition, it will be like Rodgers and Fields swapped jerseys for the season opener.

Rodgers wasn't benched last year, but he has more than enough reason to put a dumpster-fire Jets organization in its place. The 41-year-old quarterback was bitter on The Pat McAfee Show in April when explaining that he showed up to the Jets' facility to talk with new head coach Aaron Glenn and was informed that the team is moving on from him.

Just picture this storyline: Justin Fields is out to prove to his former team that he's the franchise quarterback they never should have benched, while Aaron Rodgers is determined to remind the world that he's a future First-Ballot Hall of Famer who wasn't given a fair shake with the Jets.

It's the perfect NFL soap opera, and fans are going to eat this up.

Of course, Aaron Rodgers has to sign with Pittsburgh first (like many believe he will). If this happens, get your popcorn ready! The Steelers vs. Jets Week 1 opener is going to come equipped with all of the drama you can handle.
