Mike Tomlin’s fiery post-game quote leaves Steelers fans buzzing

That's one way to describe him.

It was reasonable to expect the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets to have a competitive season opener, especially with so many former players on each side at critical positions. But the shootout that no one saw coming came down to chance for All-Pro kicker Chris Boswell to put through a game-winning field goal.

Chris Boswell has come in clutch for the Steelers so many times, but lining up from 60 yards out was a new challenge for the 11th-year veteran. Drilling the game-winner, Boswell set a new career-long while converting his 11th game-winning field goal, extending his franchise record.

It’s nothing new for Boswell to split the uprights when the Steelers need him most, and head coach Mike Tomlin was least surprised of all.

Pittsburgh Steelers HC Mike Tomlin dropped a savage line on Chris Boswell’s mentality

After the game, Tomlin spoke about his kicker’s perfect start to the 2025 campaign.

“I can’t say enough about Boz,” Tomlin said. “Our kicker is a serial killer. He’s got a low pulse rate. He can’t wait to deliver.”

Figuratively speaking, Tomlin couldn’t be more accurate in describing Boswell’s consistency. Outside of a rocky season in 2018 and 2022, Boswell has been one of the most reliable place kickers in the franchise’s history.

Boswell was perfect at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, hitting his first kick from 56 yards out in the second quarter while also converting all four of his point-after attempts following Aaron Rodgers’ touchdown passes.

Last year, Boswell hit on 93.2% of his kicks while making a league-leading 41 field goals in the process. He’s made nine consecutive kicks dating back to Week 12 last season against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Steelers have plenty to clean up coming out of Week 1, but the special teams unit had a great day overall, fronted by Boswell’s perfect day.
