On Monday, it was reported that former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris was meeting with the New York Giants. One day later, we have confirmation that the 2021 first-round pick just found a new home.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that Harris has signed a one-year deal with the Giants. Harris spent the 2025 season with the Los Angeles Chargers after leaving the Steelers in free agency. Unfortunately, his tenure with his new team was short-lived due to an Achilles injury.

Now the Giants get much-needed depth and security at the running back position behind 2025 rookie phenom Cam Skattebo. The 2025 fourth-round pick suffered a gruesome season-ending ankle injury halfway through his rookie campaign and is looking for a bounce-back season.

Former Steelers RB Najee Harris could revive his NFL career as a handcuff to Cam Skattebo on the New York Giants

If there's one thing we know about what John Harbaugh needs for his team to be successful, it's an excellent rushing attack. Harbaugh, the new coach of the Giants, terrorized the Steelers over the years with strong rushing performances with the Baltimore Ravens from players like Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson.

Now Harris unites with a familiar face for an NFL comeback.

Coming off an Achilles injury and with 1,295 touches under his belt in his first five NFL seasons, Najee no longer has a fresh pair of legs—and he never really had elite burst or speed. But what he does offer is a perfect insurance policy for the Giants.

Harris and Skattebo share remarkably similar skill sets as downhill, bruising running backs who have the physical mass and play-style tenacity to wear down NFL defenses. Considering Skattebo is also coming off a season-ending injury, Harbaugh, offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, and senior offensive assistant Greg Roman could work to limit his touches per game.

This could give Harris the opportunity to show he's still got it.

After beginning his pro career with four straight seasons of at least 1,000 yards rushing during his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Harris is going to be hungry to show that he still has what it takes to carry the load and aid his team to success on the ground.

It's almost a distant memory at this point that Najee was a Pro Bowler as a rookie when he recorded 1,667 scrimmage yards in 2021 behind a questionable Steelers offensive line.

It's entirely possible that Harris either isn't up to speed after the injury or he simply looks washed up at this stage of his NFL career. But this is a great risk-free gamble for the New York Giants to find a player who can replicate Cam Skattebo's role on offense if he were to miss time in his second NFL season.
