The National Football League held its NFL Honors ceremony on February 6. In addition to announcing the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame class, the league passed out prestigious individual awards from the 2024 season, voted on by the Associated Press.
Most of the recipients were not surprising to see, though the AP's choice for MVP was accompanied by controversy—specifically with Baltimore Ravens fans. Here are the winners and vote totals for Most Valuable Player, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and every award handed out during the 2025 NFL Honors ceremony.
Most Valuable Player: Bills QB Josh Allen
- Bills QB Josh Allen: 27 first-place votes, 383 total points
- Ravens QB Lamar Jackson: 23 first-place votes, 362 total points
- Eagles RB Saquon Barkley: 0 first-place votes, 120 total points
- Bengals QB Joe Burrow: 0 first-place votes, 82 total points
- Lions QB Jared Goff (5th): 0 first-place votes, 47 total points
Despite Lamar Jackson having the better statistical season and earning First-Team All-Pro honors in 2024, it was Josh Allen who was named league MVP. You could argue that Allen should have won the MVP award in 2023 and that Jackson was more deserving in 2024. No harm, no foul.
Offensive Player of the Year: Eagles RB Saquon Barkley
- Eagles RB Saquon Barkley: 35 first-place votes, 406 total points
- Ravens QB Lamar Jackson: 12 first-place votes, 183 total points
- Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase: 0 first-place votes, 171 total points
- Ravens RB Derrick Henry: 1 first-place vote, 92 total points
- Bengals QB Joe Burrow: 1 first-place vote, 78 total points
With over 2,000 rushing yards in 2024 and being part of one of the league's best teams, nobody should have been surprised to see Saquon Barkley take home the Offensive Player of the Year award. Barkley earned 35 first-place votes and 406 total vote points—blowing the competition out of the water.
Defensive Player of the Year: Broncos CB Patrick Surtain
- Broncos CB Patrick Surtain: 26 first-place votes, 330 total points
- Bengals EDGE Trey Hendrickson: 11 first-place votes, 205 total points
- Browns EDGE Myles Garrett: 5 first-place votes, 162 total points
- Steelers EDGE T.J. Watt: 3 first-place votes, 114 total points
- Eagles LB Zack Baun: 2 first-place votes, 63 total points
Without a dominant frontrunner in the DPOY race in 2024, it was Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II who claimed the Defensive Player of the Year award. Begals' Trey Hendrickson finished in second place after a 17.5-sack season season while Steelers' T.J. Watt—the odds-on favorite for most of the year—was quiet in the final stretch of the season. Watt finished fourth in DPOY voting.
Coach of the Year: Vikings Kevin O’Connell
- Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell: 25 first-place votes, 361 total points
- Lions HC Dan Campbell: 19 first-place votes, 283 total points
- Chiefs HC Andy Reid: 4 first-place votes, 119 total points
- Broncos HC Sean Payton: 1 first-place vote, 71 total points
- Commanders HC Dan Quinn: 1 first-place vote, 85 total points
While there were five outstanding Head Coach of the Year candidates this season, Kevin O'Connell takes the cake. Earning a 14-3 record after losing starting quarterback Kirk Cousins in free agency and first-round QB J.J. McCarthy to a season-ending knee injury during the preseason is impressive. O'Connell helped turn Sam Darnold into a 35-touchdown quarterback in 2024.
Assistant Coach of the Year: Lions OC Ben Johnson
- Lions OC Ben Johnson: 29 first-place votes, 364 total points
- Vikings DC Brian Flores: 3 first-place votes, 143 total points
- Lions DC Aaron Glenn: 6 first-place votes, 110 total points
- Eagles DC Vic Fangio: 3 first-place votes, 109 total points
- Bills OC Joe Brady: 2 first-place votes, 73 total points
This one was easy. Ben Johnson once again led the league's best offense in Detroit, averaging 33.1 points per game and 415.7 yards per game in 2024. Johnson ran away with the Assistant Coach of the Year award—earning 29 first-place votes and 364 vote points.
Offensive Rookie of the Year: Commanders QB Jayden Daniels
- Jayden Daniels QB Commanders: 49 first-place votes, 495 vote points
- Brock Bowers TE Raiders: 1 first-place vote, 214 vote points
- Bo Nix QB Broncos: 0 first-place votes, 153 vote points
- Brian Thomas WR Jaguars: 0 first-place votes, 82 vote points
- Malik Nabers WR Giants: 0 first-place votes, 51 vote points
This was the most lopsided award race of the NFL Honors ceremony. Though Raiders' Brock Bowers managed over 100 receptions and 1,000 yards as a rookie tight end, his performance was overlooked thanks to the jaw-dropping rookie season from Commanders quarterback, Jayden Daniels. The stellar rookie led his team to a 12-5 record while chipping in 31 total touchdowns. Daniels earned 49 of 50 first-place votes.
Defensive Rookie of the Year: Rams EDGE Jared Verse
- Jared Verse EDGE Rams: 37 first-place votes, 427 vote points
- Quinyon Mitchell CB Eagles: 9 first-place votes, 239 vote points
- Braden Fiske DL Rams: 1 first-place vote, 96 vote points
- Cooper DeJean CB Eagles: 0 first-place votes, 91 vote points
- Chop Robinson EDGE Dolphins: 0 first-place votes, 74 vote points
Despite earning just 4.5 sacks as a rookie, Jared Verse's consistency and dominance in defending the run caught the attention of Associated Press voters. Verse earned Defensive Rookie of the Year honors with flying colors.
Comeback Player of the Year: Bengals QB Joe Burrow
- Bengals QB Joe Burrow: 31 first-place votes, 370 total points
- Chargers RB J.K Dobbins: 3 first-place votes, 195 total points
- Vikings QB Sam Darnold: 8 first-place votes, 102 total points
- Bills DB Damar Hamlin: 3 first-place votes, 86 total votes
- Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez: 2 first-place votes, 69 total points
After playing in just 10 games in 2023, Burrow eventually got healthy during the 2024 season and emerged as an MVP candidate. Burrow led the league with 43 touchdown passes and 4,918 passing yards while throwing just nine interceptions. The Bengals' quarterback earned 31 first-place votes to nab the Comeback Player of the Year award.
