With the Steelers' 2025 season here, fans have a new hope to look forward to. They start the season with the crafty veteran Aaron Rodgers at the helm. Many fans for sure never thought they would live to see the day Aaron Rodgers played in a Steelers uniform; nevertheless, here we are.
Perhaps where Russell Wilson failed, Aaron Rodgers succeeds. Unlike Wilson, Rodgers, even though late in his career, has a chance at making Steelers History in September.
How Aaron Rodgers can put his name in the Pittsburgh Steelers' history books this September
Completions
In their team history, the Steelers have primarily had two quarterbacks who dominate the record books: Terry Bradshaw and Ben Roethlisberger. Aaron Rodgers will likely not have a long career with the Steelers, possibly only one or two seasons. His journey with the Steelers will be marked in a few small ways, and he could make history.
Ben Roethlisberger holds the Steelers record for 119 completions in the month of September. In comparison, the Steelers may not have the most prolific wide receivers in the NFL, nor as much talent at the position as other teams, but they can still cause damage to other teams when they pass the ball.
It's hard to say whether Rodgers can crack this list before September ends, and if not, it won't be for the lack of trying. All he needs to do is at least toss 102 completions, and he can move into third place all-time with the Steelers. In September, 103 completions would leave him in 2nd place behind Ben Roethlisberger.
If he completes 120 passes this month, he could surpass Big Ben in the Steelers' record books for September at least. Sure, that could be a tall order, but as a quarterback who has won the NFL MVP, it's not out of the question as a possibility.
Touchdowns and touchdown percentage
This could be another area in which Rodgers makes his mark as a Steelers quarterback. If anyone has the potential to throw touchdowns, it's Aaron Rodgers. All he would need to do is throw 12 touchdowns, and he would break the long-held tie between Terry Bradshaw and Mark Malone for the most touchdown passes in September.
As far as touchdown percentages in September, Terry Bradshaw leads the way with 10.3%, followed by Mark Malone with 8%, and Big Ben is in third place with a 7.3% touchdown rate. If Aaron Rodgers is to make his mark in the Steelers' record books, perhaps it could be in the category of touchdown percentages. We know he has the talent to do so, whether it happens or not, well, we will see.
Passing Yards
Ben Rothlisberger in September holds the record with 1414 passing yards. It would seem unlikely that Rodgers breaks this record in September, but he could surpass some other names on that list.
If he can throw for at least 1038 yards, he could surpass Bubby Brister for 6th all-time in September. Throwing for 1051 yards, he could surpass Terry Bradshaw, landing him fifth overall for September. Passing for 1169 yards, he could overtake Tommy Maddox for third on the list. Passing for more than that would also allow him to challenge Roethlisberger for second on the list for September.
Having a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers does allow the Steelers to compete in 2025. Given his age, it's unlikely he will rewrite the Steelers' history books as Big Ben did when he entered the league.
Still, one cannot count Aaron Rodgers out so long as he stays healthy. If he does that, he will have a chance to at least make his mark in a small way on the Steelers' history books, cementing his legacy as a member of the black and gold, even if only for one season.
