If you're busy grumbling about the unfair disadvantage the Pittsburgh Steelers will have playing overseas, you're going to want to see this first. The Steelers will host the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin, Ireland, in Week 4. But despite making the nearly 7,000-mile round trip, Mike Tomlin's team will travel a shockingly small distance during the 2025 season.
Based on the home and away games we already knew about prior to the NFL Schedule Release, Bill Speros, a senior betting analyst for Bookies.com, calculated the total distance in miles each team will travel during the 2025-26 season. His findings were shocking.
Despite the Steelers being among the few teams to play across the Atlantic Ocean, they will have the 9th shortest distance traveled this season.

— Bill Speros (@billsperos) May 13, 2025
The 32 NFL teams will cover a total of 625,947 miles this season, averaging 19,561 per team, and 2,301 per trip. 6 NFL teams will travel more miles than it takes to go around the world.

According to Speros, the Steelers will travel a grand total of 15,062 miles during the 2025-26 NFL season. While this seems like a lot, it's less than half the amount that some teams will be forced to travel this year.
The LA Chargers, for example, will travel a whopping 37,086 miles while seven teams will travel upwards of 25,000 miles. The Cincinnati Bengals will have the shortest total distance traveled of just 8,753 miles this season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers can thank close division rivals for the short distance traveled
So, how could the Pittsburgh Steelers be among the bottom 10 teams in total distance traveled despite having a game overseas? The answer is simple: their division, the AFC North, is all in close proximity to each other. This is where three of their road games come from.
In comparison, teams from the AFC West are required to travel much further simply to face divisional opponents.

But this season is particularly intriguing for the Steelers when it comes to distance traveled, as their other opponents come in Chicago, Detroit, Boston, and New York. Only one game besides their international contest goes across multiple time zones (that's their away game against the Chargers).
The entire AFC North all ranks inside the top 10 for shortest distances traveled this season, thanks largely to their proximity to each other. And if you've been keeping tabs on this over the years, this is nothing out of the norm.
It's remarkable to think that one contest—the Steelers' home game in Dublin—accounts for nearly as many miles traveled as all of their eight away games combined. At least we can take comfort in knowing that, even with a brutal distance traveled in their Week 4 game in Ireland, the Steelers still won't be required to do much traveling in 2025 compared to the rest of the league.
