The Pittsburgh Steelers are 3-2 on the season, having alternated wins and losses each week thus far. Pittsburgh is already 3-0 at home, but they're 0-2 on the road. Many of the same primary concerns we had with this team coming into the season are still present, as nothing really sticks out with this team that makes you believe they can make a deep playoff run.
But if they do keep winning and can find a way to go on a winning streak, things would suddenly be pointing up. As for the quarterback position, it's been a bit of a mixed bag for the veteran Aaron Rodgers this year.
He had his best performance of the season in Week 5, as he tossed a trio of touchdowns, threw for 235 yards, and completed 71% of his passes. With another game like that, Rodgers will further etch his name into all-time NFL history.
Pittsburgh Steelers' QB Aaron Rodgers is approaching more NFL history with TD passes
Here is how the all-time passing touchdown list currently looks:
1. Tom Brady - 649
2. Drew Brees - 571
3. Peyton Manning - 539
4. Aaron Rodgers - 537
The four-time NFL MVP is just three passing touchdowns away from passing Hall of Famer Peyton Manning for third all time, which would put him right behind Drew Brees and Tom Brady. Rodgers getting another three touchdown passes here in another couple of weeks is likely, but doing so in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is very possible.
Rodgers is 34 passing touchdowns away from tying with Brees, and unless the Steelers' gunslinger is able to go on some sort of MVP-caliber run the rest of the way, it's very likely, perhaps certain, that Rodgers will end his career third on the list.
The Buccaneers rank 14th in points allowed per game. They've allowed seven passing touchdowns this year and an opposing passer rating of 88.2, so their passing defense has been solid this year. While this is only a matter of time for Rodgers, it's firmly possible in Week 6.
Week 7 features an away game against the New Orleans Saints, and with how shaky the Saints' defense has been, not reaching this milestone in Week 6 would surely mean he hits it in Week 7.
But either way, Rodgers has been able to sustain a HOF career. He's likely one of the five best passers in the history of the league and might genuinely be the most talented player to ever play the position.
While he's not close to the player he once was, it still is a bit of a pleasure to watch him on the Steelers, knowing that it's his final year in the NFL.
