With a new bombshell report out by ESPN's Adam Schefter, it sounds like Jauan Jennings' days with the San Francisco 49ers are fleeting. If they make him available via trade, don't be shocked if the Pittsburgh Steelers place some calls. They have been trying to land a clear upgrade to their receiver position, and acquiring Jennings would finally secure their offensive weaponry for Aaron Rodgers.

General Manager Omar Khan has been active this offseason, and their recent trade that landed them Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith might be the perfect blueprint for the 49ers veteran.

After trading for Smith, they signed him to a one-year extension that will provide him with a pay raise. His situation was oddly similar to what Jennings is dealing with. It could be another smooth transition for Pittsburgh.

The Steelers should have enough cap space to accommodate Jennings this season, who will only make $7.5 million. That is fantastic value for a reliable receiver who can slide up and down the depth chart and isn't afraid to make some blocks. If he hits the trade market, Khan will do everything in his power to upgrade the receiving corps. The Steelers make a reasonable landing spot.

The Pittsburgh Steelers could trade Calvin Austin III and a pick swap for Jauan Jennings

This mock trade would be a perfect solution for both sides.

Although San Francisco shouldn't feel any pressure to move Jennings, a trade request could get negotiations moving. The Steelers add a clear receiver upgrade and follow that by signing him to a one or two-year extension with a comfortable raise. He shouldn't expect any earth-shattering cap charges, but it will be more than his current paycheck.

On the flip side, the 49ers acquire Calvin Austin III, a receiver who has yet to find his footing as a starter. Though he’s flashed potential on offense, consistent production has been missing. His speed remains his best asset, and with San Francisco’s creative offensive minds, he could be put in ideal positions to thrive. This trade has the potential to be a win-win for both sides.

Jennings is coming off a massive breakout campaign in 2024.

He produced eye-popping numbers of 975 yards and six touchdowns off 77 receptions. His role grew exponentially last season, and the veteran knows he must cash in. The Steelers would love to add his style of play to their offense, and it seems like a match made in Heaven. It would be a terrific fit between player and team.

Austin would take on an elevated role in San Francisco as the team awaits Brandon Aiyuk’s return from last season’s injury. The speedy Steelers receiver could offer a valuable short-term solution amid Aiyuk's ongoing rehab. The mid-round pick swap helps sweeten the mock trade, as Jennings has been the more established player throughout his career.
