There will be capable receivers who hit roster waivers during the preseason process, which might produce a fantastic opportunity for Pittsburgh Steelers General Manager Omar Khan to pounce. The club has Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson on the roster for competition at training camp.

If neither option proves their worth, expect Khan to remain active as he attempts to land an upgrade before Week 1.

Either team in New York makes sense as a possible target to poach a receiver, but the New York Jets make the most sense. Aaron Rodgers was with the club last season, and they have some clear options who would transition well to Pittsburgh. Khan is seeking a potential upgrade at training camp, and New York offers the perfect opportunity.

Both Allen Lazard and Malachi Corley could make the most sense as expendable options for the Jets. With a new coaching staff in charge this year, certain players might not stand out as much as they did under the previous regime. Lazard and Corley could be on the chopping block when final roster decisions drop. It could create a terrific opportunity for the Steelers.

Pittsburgh Steelers could consider adding either Malachi Corley or Allen Lazard at receiver

Allen Lazard, WR

The connection between Lazard and Rodgers is crystal clear. They have spent seven seasons together as teammates, and there chemistry is well documented. It could lead to Khan placing some trade calls in search of landing Lazard. The veteran receiver might not be at the level of some other choices fans have clamored for, but he would provide a stable force for the Steelers.

Rodgers would love to add Lazard, as the current Jets receiver can show the young Pittsburgh playmakers how Rodgers operates.

New York has an abundance of receivers on their team, and added pieces in free agency and the NFL Draft. Expect the Jets to make a couple of noteworthy moves at the receiver position this preseason, and Khan better be circling them like a shark.

Malachi Corley, WR

New York drafted Corley in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but that doesn't mean he's a lock to make their roster. He struggled to find a role on their offense last season, which is troublesome since they had problems at the receiver spot all year. His struggles last season, combined with a new coaching staff, could make him a surprise release. It might open a door to join the Steelers.

Pittsburgh showed plenty of pre-draft interest in Corley when he was coming out of Western Kentucky. They didn't get a chance to take him in the third round since the Jets traded up to select him. With new bigwigs in town, Khan might check to see what kind of potential Corley has left. He could be a Deebo Samuel-type receiver, which would be a nice addition to their offense.
