It makes sense to connect the Pittsburgh Steelers to the embattled prospect entering the NFL, given their rare opportunity to land the player. They could secure a high-profile quarterback without tanking this season, though there are many reg flags to sift through with Sorsby.
There is a realistic path for the Steelers to draft Brendan Sorsby, but they could opt to wait to address the quarterback need until next offseason.
One of Will Howard or Drew Allar could be the answer, but don't be shocked if they go another direction. Depending on how things unfold, they could always target a free agent, someone who emerges on the trade block, or attack the need in the 2027 NFL Draft.

News out of Tampa Bay has exposed a gap between Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers in negotiations. He is set to hit the open market as a free agent after this season and could be of interest to the Steelers. He is a veteran signal caller who could help extend their window of trying to compete with T.J. Watt and Cam Heyward on their roster.
It wouldn't be shocking if the pending free agent and Tampa Bay reach a contract solution, but don't rule out this scenario until Mayfield signs on the dotted line. He knows the AFC North well, and having the chance to beat the Cleveland Browns twice a season would probably be enticing.
Maybe Baker Mayfield shouldn't be their top option to replace Aaron Rodgers, but it's not impossible to see.
Trade: Jalen Hurts
Something seems off within the Eagles organization, and it starts with Jalen Hurts, who continues to gain heat around his starting job. They moved out A.J. Brown because he and Hurts had a contentious relationship. If the veteran quarterback hits the trade block after this season, Pittsburgh could be a realistic destination. They showed pre-draft interest in the player back in 2020.
The issue with Jalen Hurts is that he costs a lot of money, and you would have to give up assets to acquire him. You also must factor in that he isn't a top quarterback in the NFL. Perhaps those reasons would keep Brendan Sorsby in the mix this summer. Hurts did win a Super Bowl, but he wasn't their best player. He is a solid complementary piece, but he isn't anything special either.
2027 NFL Draft: Arch Manning, Dante Moore, Drew Mestemaker, CJ Carr, Darian Mensah
This is where neglecting Brendan Sorsby makes the most sense: if the Steelers bypass him to attack the need in the 2027 NFL Draft. As of now, the group of projected prospects is expected to be loaded with talent. With that said, those projections should be taken with a grain of salt.
Many thought the 2026 quarterback class would be loaded, and that aged like milk under the hot sun.

The Steelers would be taking a gamble by skipping Brendan Sorsby, especially if these players live up to the hype. Most of them would likely get picked much earlier than Pittsburgh will select.
