After years of scraping by, the Pittsburgh Steelers finally have a deep cornerback room. They have talent at the top, experienced depth, and developmental options to continue to groom.

In short, some tough decisions could have to be made this summer, and that opens the door for trade talks.

Joey Porter Jr. is the headline act, and he now has the perfect Robin to accompany him in Jamel Dean. Asante Samuel Jr. is an amazing third option, while Daylen Everette, who was taken in the third round, has looked good so far in the limited

That is a crowded top four. Add Jalen Ramsey, who will play all over the secondary, and Brandon Echols, and someone could be squeezed out.

The fallout in Detroit around Terrion Arnold has left them with a massive hole. The Steelers could be a logical team to fill it.

The Pittsburgh Steelers could trade a CB to the Lions

Even with Arnold on their roster, the Lions' cornerback room was an issue. Now cut, ESPN lists Keith Abney as the other outside starting cornerback. Abney is a fifth-round pick from the 2026 draft class and would be put in a tough position if he were forced into a starting role.

Detroit is trying to win now. They have the roster in place to do so. However, they have an Achilles heel right now that could cost them.

While it would be a real blockbuster move, if Porter fails to get a deal done, a massive trade could occur. I’d count that as unlikely, but not impossible.

Instead, it feels like Samuel could be the guy who may be more valuable as a trade piece. While he was solid when called upon last year, he is now back as a third cornerback.

Everette has been making a strong case this summer. If he is further along than expected, he could settle into the top backup spot. He also has special teams ability as well, something Samuel lacks.

On the flip side, Samuel would provide the Lions with a solid outside cornerback. A little relief to their muddled room. For a team hoping to make a Super Bowl run, a move like that could reduce the chinks in their armor.

I’m not running to trade any cornerback on this team right now, but if Everette continues to ascend, it could force Samuel out the door. If that occurs, Detroit is an obvious spot for him to land, given their immense need in the secondary.
