In a recent article with Sports Illustrated, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers voiced that he has reached out to a former teammate of the Green Bay Packers.
The legendary quarterback spoke with Bill Huber of SI, and the conversation was mostly centered around his time with the Packers. They spoke about his Super Bowl win, his fond memories of the club, and the Pittsburgh Steelers' upcoming battle against the Packers during Week 8 of the schedule.
One detail from the article that should catch the attention of Steelers Nation was Rodgers’s comment about his former teammate, Romeo Doubs. He made his admiration known publicly, expressing the connection he still shares with his former pass catcher. Pittsburgh has been linked to the receiver in trade rumors for months, and this will reignite those flames.
"Rodgers called on Monday, one day before roster cuts; interestingly, he asked about receiver Romeo Doubs," Huber wrote.
There is interest from the quarterback to possibly reconnect with Doubs this season. He is familiar with the receiver from their time playing together during the 2022 season. While Doubs might be someone high on Rodgers' reunion list, he might not be the only choice. The Steelers have been rumored to have many available receivers, and there could be a list of choices.
Aaron Rodgers could tempt the Pittsburgh Steelers into adding a receiver via trade
With roster cuts flooding into the newsroom, a trade would seemingly have to happen soon. The Packers have plenty of talent at the receiver position, but they suffered a lot of injuries during the preseason. It's possible Green Bay could hold onto as many bodies as possible to wait out this storm. That would leave Doubs unavailable, and his chances of joining the Steelers would be slim.

Pittsburgh remains in the rumor mill in their attempt to upgrade their roster during final cuts. If Doubs or another receiver becomes available, the Steelers will be interested. They believe Rodgers can help them get postseason success, and they will be "all-in". The recent comments by the future Hall of Fame quarterback could be considered significant moving forward.
Even though the aging veteran reached out to see what the situation around Doubs was, it doesn't mean he was campaigning for only Doubs. He could have been making it known publicly that he wants another weapon. Rodgers has been known to advocate for prior teammates to join his new club, like with Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard during his time with the New York Jets.
The Steelers will refuse to give Rodgers as much leeway as the Jets did. They understand that final decisions about roster construction rest with their top decision-makers. There is an obvious connection between Pittsburgh and Doubs.
These recent comments by Aaron Rodgers could amount to nothing, but the Pittsburgh Steelers would be wise to place some trade calls before the season kicks off.
