It's happening. After months of playing the waiting game, Aaron Rodgers is signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers. We knew which opponents this team would be facing in January, but when the NFL schedule dropped in May, there were a few matchups on the schedule that looked like pure cinema if Rodgers was on the team.
Now that we know that Rodgers will be the man under center for the Steelers in 2025, everyone is already looking ahead to Pittsburgh's Week 1 matchup against the New York Jets. Justin Fields and Rodgers swapped teams this offseason, and both quarterbacks will be out for blood against their former organizations.
But there's another matchup that offers even more intrigue against a better opponent.
In Week 8, the Pittsburgh Steelers will host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football. Though Rodgers hasn't played a snap for the Packers since 2022, the 41-year-old quarterback will be back where it all started... and he's going to try to put up the game of his life.
The Pittsburgh Steelers could see the best of Aaron Rodgers in Week 8 against the Green Bay Packers
This Steelers vs. Packers mid-season matchup is going to offer over-the-top drama with a plethora of storylines. Rodgers will not only compete against his former team, but he'll be doing so against Jordan Love, the quarterback selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft to ultimately replace Rodgers.
Love had an outstanding playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys on January 14, 2024, which included three touchdowns in the 48-32 win. Over the past two years, Love combined for 57 touchdown passes. As the apprentice looks to become the master, Rodgers will attempt to show the Green Bay Packers why they ditched him too soon.
But bigger than the master vs. apprentice storyline is the history Rodgers could make in this contest. The four-time MVP quarterback has wins over 31 of 32 NFL teams. The only one remaining? The Green Bay Packers. Talk about an accomplishment if he's able to pull this off.
This game will be on the biggest stage of regular-season primetime action on Sunday Night Football with the world watching. The revenge tour starts in New York with the Jets, but Rodgers will be in full swing by Week 8 of the season to stick it to his old head coach, Matt LaFleur.
We still have to wait a long time to see the future Hall of Fame quarterback take the field at Acrisure Stadium against the team he spent 18 years with and had some of the most impressive single seasons in NFL history. When he does, get your popcorn ready! It's going to be a wild ride!
