After the New York Giants revealed that their young quarterback, Jaxson Dart, will be undergoing season-ending knee surgery, their season looks like a flop. With John Harbaugh as their head coach, they will hope to stay competitive and see where things take them. They would love to add a veteran starter to their team, even though that possibility is low right now.
That doesn't mean it couldn't eventually happen.
No trade of Rodgers would be able to happen unless the Steelers' season continues to sour. Many things would have to work against the Black and Gold before they consider selling off major assets before the trade deadline. We can overreact to the New England loss all we want, but don't be shocked if the team finds different ways to claw their way back to relevance. They have a ton of veterans across the roster who can locate different paths to victory during the long campaign.
If things do go in a direction where the season is a lost cause, don't be shocked if Rodgers quietly retires with an injury popping up or tries to find his way out of town.
His competitive fire is still burning bright with the Steelers, but that could all change if they lose a bunch of games before the trade deadline. He could see the Giants as a destination if they find a way to stay afloat over the next seven weeks.
The trade deadline for the NFL is on November 10, which means the Steelers and the rest of the league must figure out their place in the pecking order by then. It should be interesting to see how Pittsburgh and Rodgers look leading up to that date. They certainly want to bring assets onto the team to help them make noise come playoff time. If they flop, then maybe trading Rodgers isn't an outlandish idea.
