The 2026 NFL Schedule release is set for Thursday, May 14, at 8 pm ET. But that has not kept Pittsburgh Steelers fans from gaining insight beforehand. Additional information concerning an important campaign is beneficial. And leaks are helping fans piece together an important campaign for Mike McCarthy’s squad.

The information is also preparing Michael Pittman Jr. for one of the biggest games of his career.

According to NFL Nerd, the Steelers will host the Indianapolis Colts during Week 5 of the regular season. It's also an interconference rematch from the previous season. But it’s also a chance for Pittsburgh’s veteran wideout to strike revenge on his former team.

Pittman joined Mike McCarthy’s roster via trade in March. It cost Khan’s front office a sixth-round pick, but gifted the franchise a much-needed offensive weapon. The motivated wideout perfectly complements a developing WR room. He's a perfect target for a developing quarterback like Will Howard or Drew Allar.

Hopefully, he becomes a new weapon for Aaron Rodgers, should the veteran quarterback decide to re-sign.

The Pittsburgh Steelers need Michael Pittman Jr. to circle Week 5

It’s not hard to identify what Pittman Jr. can bring to an offense. Just watch his film from Week 9 last season. The six-foot-four wideout terrorized Teryl Austin’s secondary, earning nine receptions for 115 yards. He extended drives and delivered on big plays downfield.

Still, his performance could not erase the 27-20 Steelers win, but it was enough to gain Pittsburgh’s attention. It did not take long for Omar Khan to pull the trigger on a proven wideout.

Pittman Jr. is where he belongs. He’s a dynamic player in a growing offense that lacked depth at skilled positions in recent campaigns. However, this year the Steelers are focused on improving. And it begins with Pittman Jr. His versatility and size make him a perfect partner for DK Metcalf. They also become assets for McCarthy’s quarterbacks to utilize.

In 2025, Pittman Jr tied 15th in passing touchdowns among wideouts. He also earned 80 receptions (17th), becoming a reliable target for the Colts offense. I believe the results are transferable to Pittsburgh. Especially if the veteran is motivated to show what his former team discarded.

A rematch in the opening weeks against the Colts is a perfect opportunity for Mike McCarthy to temperature check his group.

I believe this roster and staff are improved, resulting in better results than the last matchup. Pittsburgh’s victory was a valiant effort. But I expect Michael Pittman Jr’s presence to make things a little easier this go around.
