Despite already making several blockbuster moves this offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers seem likely to continue adding talent to a roster now led by Aaron Rodgers. The receiving core, in particular, is in need of another difference maker, even with the addition of D.K. Metcalf.
Trading away George Pickens may or may not end up working out, but there is no question that it lowered the talent at receiver significantly. The team remains hopeful that 2024 third-round pick Roman Wilson can contribute this season after an injury-riddled rookie year, but that is hardly a guarantee.
With GM Omar Khan stockpiling draft assets for 2026, giving up any more valuable picks to find an upgrade seems unlikely. If it isn't going to be an established veteran being added, why not take a swing at an overlooked, athletic receiver buried on another depth chart?
That is where Packers receiver Bo Melton comes into play.
Pittsburgh Steelers should take a flyer on speedy Packers receiver Bo Melton
Many Steelers fans (and NFL fans in general) may have no idea who Bo Melton is. The former seventh-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks has produced just 22 receptions for 309 yards and a single touchdown. After failing to make the Seahawks roster in 2022, he worked his way from their practice squad to the Packers' practice squad, earning his first NFL snaps late in the 2023 season.
In his only career start thus far, he exploded for 105 yards and a touchdown on six receptions against the Vikings in 2023. His 2024 season saw him primarily play on special teams, but the Packers' receiving core was as deep as any across the league.

Now that Green Bay added two more receivers in the 2025 NFL draft, Melton may be viewed as expendable. They even have him moonlighting at corner just to see if he can offer anything on the defensive side of the ball.
Melton has all the physical traits to be a valuable role player for an offense, with blazing 4.34 speed and surprising ball skills for an average-sized receiver. For many teams, he would be a valuable contributor as a depth receiver while also being a key special teams player.
For the Steelers, he could be even more given their current group of weapons. While they could potentially look to sign him if he is ultimately released during cuts, offering a late-round pick swap could be all Omar Khan needs to do to get his hands on the playmaker.
