After securing a defensive cornerstone in Derrick Harmon with the 21st overall pick, the Pittsburgh Steelers now face a crucial decision on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft: whether to stay patient or get aggressive in their pursuit of a quarterback.

With Shedeur Sanders still on the board and Jalen Milroe gaining traction as the top Day 2 QB prospect, the Steelers are at a crossroads—and they cannot wait.

NFL.com’s lead writer Eric Edholm's mock draft forecasts the New Orleans Saints expect to take Milroe early in the second round, making it clear the clock is ticking. If Pittsburgh sees Milroe as their future quarterback —and they should—they must act now.

Waiting could cost them a player with the athleticism, upside, and playmaking ability to improve the franchise.

Milroe, the former Alabama star, offers a rare dual-threat skill set that rivals any quarterback in this class. His ability to extend plays, create with his legs, and flash deep-ball potential makes him a more intriguing long-term prospect than Sanders, who’s experienced a surprising slide since the first round began.

The Pittsburgh Steelers must make an aggressive trade during Day 2 of the NFL Draft

The Steelers have already made it clear they will not force a pick. Passing on a quarterback in Round 1 for Harmon was a measured decision. But the luxury of patience does not extend into Day 2. If Milroe is high on their board, they must move up—and quickly.

I believe a proposed trade package of Pittsburgh’s third-round pick (No. 83 overall) and sixth-round pick (No. 185) for the Chicago Bears’ No. 39 selection is both realistic and worthwhile. It’s a bold, forward-thinking move and could reshape the Steelers’ future under center.

Mason Rudolph’s two-year, $8 million contract is a short-term insurance policy, not a long-term answer. Rumors of Aaron Rodgers potentially joining the team still linger, but nothing is certain.

Trading up for Milroe would send a clear message: the Steelers are not sitting back. They are ready to build for the future with intent. If they want to avoid another year of quarterback uncertainty, this is the move. Don’t wait for the perfect moment—create it.
