The 2025 NFL draft couldn't have gone much better so far for the Pittsburgh Steelers. They attacked two of their biggest needs with players who are perfect fits. Oregon defensive lineman Derrick Harmon went at pick 21, adding a potential long-term replacement for Cam Heyward. Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson came next at pick 83, who is a great fit for Arthur Smith's offense.
Now that they have added impact starters with their first two picks, general manager Omar Khan has set a very clear path for what the rest of the draft could look like for Pittsburgh.
With just four picks left in the class, barring any trades, the Steelers need to address their biggest remaining need with their fourth-round pick.
Pittsburgh Steelers are set up to take a swing on a QB on Day 3 of the NFL draft
While there are clear signs that Aaron Rodgers will ultimately sign with the Steelers, Omar Khan has made it clear that they want to enter training camp with four quarterbacks on the roster.
With just Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson on the roster, Pittsburgh needs to find at least one other QB, regardless of whether Rodgers signs or not. With their first pick on Day 3 at 123, there could be several QBs worthy of being selected.
The biggest name is somehow still Shedeur Sanders out of Colorado, but it seems like nobody is willing to take a chance on him despite how evaluators feel about him.
If it isn't Sanders, two QBs stand out due to reported pre-draft interest from the Steelers: Syracuse's Kyle McCord and Ohio State's Will Howard.
McCord was the most productive passer in all of college football last season after leaving Ohio State to join the Orange. Howard, meanwhile, replaced McCord and helped guide the Buckeyes to their first National Championship since 2014.
Both have their strengths, with McCord being the more accurate and aggressive passer while Howard is more athletic with prototypical size. Either would be a great fit as a developmental third QB in 2025, and they could even compete to start in 2026 depending on how the Steelers attack the position next season.
