The 2025 season may not have kicked off just yet, but next offseason looms large for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ front office. The team will likely be hitting the reset button at quarterback once again, and the team will be looking to save some cash to afford a long list of solid draft picks who need new contracts before the 2027 offseason.
The NFL is a business, so preserving young talent often means letting veteran expertise go. Pittsburgh will be left with a difficult decision after this season concerning one of its best free-agent acquisitions of Omar Khan’s tenure.
No one would blame the Pittsburgh Steelers for moving on from this serviceable veteran
Isaac Seumalo’s contract is up after the 2025 season. He’ll turn 32 during this season, which very well could be his last in Pittsburgh.
Seumalo came to Pittsburgh in 2023 on a three-year, $24 million contract, and he’s largely lived up to the signing. He’s only missed four games, all of them coming at the start of last season, which ended with him getting a Pro Bowl nod nonetheless, the first of his career.
Without a doubt, the Steelers have been pleased with Seumalo. He’s provided consistency and leadership up front. In 2025, he’s by far the most experienced player on the offensive line, too. But that, too, is part of the equation that will likely make the 2025 season the final one for Seumalo in Pittsburgh.
The Steelers only have one more offensive line spot to upgrade through the draft
It’s no secret that the Steelers have mimicked the Philadelphia Eagles' draft strategy of building through the trenches. The first two draft cycles under Khan’s direction saw the team select offensive tackles in the first round, and this past draft brought in defensive tackle Derrick Harmon in the first round as well.
Interestingly enough, all three players starting to the right of Seumalo on the offensive line were selected in last year’s draft. It wouldn’t be at all surprising for Khan to want to find his fifth starter via the draft to fill the left guard spot in 2026. After all, the Steelers have invested in their skill positions and defense through trades and free agency this offseason, but not in the trenches, where the team has made an obvious effort to get younger.

Seumalo has been as advertised since coming over from the Eagles in 2023. He’s a reliable player overall, though far from a league leader at his position. Regardless, if 2025 is indeed his final season in Pittsburgh, his time with the team will hopefully not go unappreciated.
