The Pittsburgh Steelers still don't have a concrete answer at the quarterback position following the 2025 NFL Draft. But, at least they're not set up for a frenzy of controversy going forward like the Cleveland Browns.
Sure, the Steelers took Ohio State quarterback Will Howard in the sixth round. But, Howard isn't going to unseat Mason Rudolph as the starter right away -- at least, it's unlikely. Pittsburgh is likely still banking on Aaron Rodgers.
As for Cleveland, they were the story of the draft. The Browns made headlines when they opted to take Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel in the third round, continuing to pass on the guy everybody was talking about.
Finally came the fifth round, and that's when the Browns took their shot on Shedeur Sanders.
So, what now? The Browns have one heck of a road ahead of them at the quarterback position; one filled with never-ending questions, too.
The Browns invited a media circus and certified controversy with their draft decisions
The Browns' quarterback room now includes:
Kenny Pickett
Joe Flacco
Deshaun Watson
Dillon Gabriel
Shedeur Sanders
Four out of the five weren't on the roster last year, while the fifth one (Watson) might never play another down in Cleveland.
Watson's future is in doubt after his Achilles surgery, so you can pretty much take him out of the equation. Although, until he's finally and firmly off the roster, he'll remain a topic. You don't make an all-time blunder of a decision like that without it being a topic for years to come.
Flacco seems like the obvious answer to start, if you were to ask someone right now. Pickett could be on the move again after Cleveland invested draft capital into Gabriel and Sanders.
The best-case scenario, of course, is that Sanders hits his ceiling and ultimately takes the job. That would put an end to all of the questions and controversy. But, that's also a long shot based on his draft billing.
Five quarterbacks on the roster right now ... what a circus in Cleveland. At least the Steelers don't have all of the questions and silly narratives being written about their quarterback room.
Imagine the type of media coverage Cleveland just invited by making the decisions they did. For so many reasons, the Browns are going to be in for a heck of a storm, media-wise.
