The Pittsburgh Steelers may be entering a new era, but rookie quarterback Will Howard isn’t fazed. He’s energized.

Surrounded by a blend of legends and leaders, Howard is soaking up knowledge from some of the most respected names in the league. This environment could be overwhelming, but instead, the sixth-round pick is working to thrive.

At the top of that list of mentors is four-time All-Pro quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who joined the Steelers this offseason. When Rodgers speaks, Howard listens... intently.

“When he says it, he’s like, ‘I don’t want to overstep,’ I’m like, ‘dude, you’re—please, please by all means, tell me whatever you think,’” Howard told the media, via Amanda Godsey. That level of humility and eagerness to learn speaks volumes about the young quarterback’s mindset.

Then there’s DK Metcalf—the Steelers’ newest star wideout. Though primarily focused on revamping the receiver room, Metcalf has gone out of his way to support Howard. The rookie can’t help but be impressed.

“He’s something else,” Howard said. “He’s super hard-working, respectful, goes about his business, and a great dude too.” That’s high praise coming from a quarterback still trying to find his footing in the NFL.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will have a bright future if Will Howard continues to develop

Metcalf, now in his eighth season, has even put in extra time catching passes from Howard after practice. It’s that kind of unspoken leadership—leading by example—that helps build confidence and chemistry.

Especially for a young player stepping into a storied franchise like Pittsburgh.

I’m personally encouraged by what I’m seeing from Howard. He’s not shying away from the challenge or letting his draft position define him. Instead, he’s leaning on the experience around him, which is exactly what a successful quarterback should do.

Let’s not forget what Howard brings to the table. With 9,796 passing yards and 83 touchdowns from his college career, he arrives in Pittsburgh with a championship background and a track record of leadership.

He’s shown he can handle big moments—now, he’s learning how to turn that into consistent NFL success.

Steelers fans should feel hopeful. Will Howard is in the right place, with the right mentors, at the right time? He’s not just here to fill a roster spot—he’s here to learn, grow, and when the moment is right, lead.
