Steelers shouldn't turn away from trading for ideal OL depth

The Pittsburgh Steelers will look different in 2026, as Mike McCarthy will be on the sideline instead of Mike Tomlin. Despite all the moving parts, the one constant that will never change is having a solid offensive line with quality depth.

Injuries are bound to happen, which is why the Steelers should consider making a move for offensive tackle Wanya Morris. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on Tuesday that the Kansas City Chiefs and Morris have agreed to look at trade options.

And with Broderick Jones' return date still uncertain, the Steelers would be wise to see what it would take to acquire Morris.

The Pittsburgh Steelers should check in on the price for Wanya Morris

It hasn't been smooth sailing for Jones in the Steel City, as the team declined to pick up his fifth-year option. He was limited to 11 games in 2025 after his season was cut short by a neck injury. He underwent spinal fusion surgery, but he still doesn't know when he can step back on the field.

“They didn’t really give me a timeline. They’re just monitoring it day by day, and we go from there,” Jones said via Chris Harlan of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Jones being 100 percent healthy is the most important thing, but the fact that the team doesn't even know when he'll return to the field is a bit concerning and makes trading for Morris more enticing.

Morris has spent the past three years with the Chiefs and was used in a reserve role. He suited up in 43 games, making 16 starts. While Morris still has room for growth as both a run and pass blocker, he could be pushed into the starting lineup if needed. He has experience lining up at both left and right tackle. That is very valuable and shouldn't be something Pittsburgh overlooks.

Morris has one year left on his rookie deal, which means it shouldn't cost more than a late-day 3 pick to get a deal across the finish line. The Steelers did select Max Iheanachor in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft. They also have Troy Fautanu plugged into the right tackle spot.

Dylan Cook, Jack Driscoll, and Lorenzo Thompson are the other depth options on the team, but none of them has a spot locked down. That makes the idea of Morris coming over something the front office should consider. You can never have enough depth and starter-level talent there.

Morris would check both boxes, and with Jones' status up in the air, Pittsburgh should seriously consider making a move.
