The Pittsburgh Steelers were rumored to be interested in another blockbuster trade with the Miami Dolphins. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk recently discussed superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill as a trade candidate while mentioning the Steelers as a possible destination, along with the Kansas City Chiefs.
However, it didn't take long for Florio to deflate the air from his own rumor bubble.
Pittsburgh still has major needs at the wide receiver position, and Omar Khan has been as aggressive as any general manager in the league over the past few years. But according to Florio, the Steelers were interested in trading for Hill, just not anymore.
“I will share one little nugget as it relates to teams interested in Tyreek Hill,” Florio said Thursday on his Pro Football Talk podcast. “I heard this the other day and haven’t had a chance to mention it. My understanding is the Steelers were [interested], but they’re not anymore because Mike Tomlin is concerned about what happens with this personal conduct policy investigation."
This makes perfect sense when you consider the serious allegations Hill is dealing with. The risk in trading for Hill is not only substantial, but it would also appear to be a questionable decision from Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin.
“Is there going to be a photo? Is there going to be a video? Is there going to be something that Tyreek Hill gets suspended for?" Florio continued. "They don’t want to trade for him and then lose him, which is not an unreasonable position for a team to take because why do you want to give up a third-round pick next year and have a guy come in and you raise up everyone’s hopes and then he’s gone in November?”
It's possible Hill could face suspension after being investigated for domestic violence. Sadly, this isn't Hill's only encounter with the law, as he has dealt with several similar situations in the past.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are wise to avoid a Tyreek Hill trade with the Miami Dolphins
The Pittsburgh Steelers already made one blockbuster trade with the Miami Dolphins in 2025, which may prove beneficial. While Jalen Ramsey hasn't been perfect, he's been one of the lone bright spots on the team through the first two weeks of the season.
With an aging roster and a 41-year-old quarterback, the Steelers haven't been shy in going after veteran talent—knowing that their 'window' is now. But if Pittsburgh is out on Hill, as Florio suggests, this is the right call.

Hill showed that he's still got plenty to offer as a receiver. Through his first three games of the 2025 season, Hill has 15 receptions for 198 yards and a touchdown. His skill set would be a perfect complement to what DK Metcalf brings to the table.
However, the risk of trading for Hill is too great with the serious allegations he's facing. This would be a bad PR move by a team desperate to snap its winless playoff drought. For now, the Pittsburgh Steelers will press forward with the group they have in hopes that they can turn things around.
