Omar Khan just gave himself more to work with in the 2024 NFL Draft

While NFL players like Spencer Anderson and Kendrick Green no doubt have more at stake from the Steelers decision to trade Kevin Dotson, Omar Khan did himself a solid with this move. After receiving countless pats on the back for the talent he was able to land in the 2023 NFL Draft, Khan is already starting to stock up for the future.

The Dotson trade ended up including a pair of pick-swaps. In addition to giving away Dotson to the Rams, the Steelers also handed Los Angeles a 5th-round pick in 2024 and a 6th-round pick in 2025 in exchange for a 4th-round pick in 2024 and a 5th-round pick in 2025.

This may seem rather insignificant when you look at it on the surface, but consider this: In the 2023 NFL Draft, the first pick of the 4th round was pick 103, whereas the last pick of the fifth round was pick 177. If you believe that the Steelers will be a good team this year and the Rams will be a bad team (which could very well prove to be the case), this could be a significant difference in draft capital.

Kudos to Khan for getting better draft capital for a player who was never going to see the field for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2023 anyway. If the Rams are bad enough this 4th-round pick could be one of the very first picks on Day 3 of the NFL Draft next April. Khan is already looking to set himself up for another promising draft next year with moves like this.
