Training camp opens to the public next Thursday, and it's sure to attract a lot of attention from fans and the media. With everyone eager to see how the team is shaping up, there will be plenty of excitement and buzz.

Every year, training camp brings its share of surprises. From standout performances to unexpected roster cuts, there's always something to keep fans on their toes. This year will be no different, with lots of anticipation and interest surrounding the team. Here are three bold roster predictions heading into Steelers training camp.

A move will be made for a Wide Receiver

At some point during training camp, I believe the Steelers will bolster their wide receiver corps by adding a starting-caliber player. After weeks of evaluating the current group in practice and preseason games, the front office will likely conclude that the roster lacks the depth and talent needed to compete at a high level at this position. Beyond George Pickens and rookie Roman Wilson, the other wide receivers have not shown enough promise.

To make a significant impact offensively this season, the Steelers need to sign or trade for a WR2 to pair with Pickens. A reliable WR2 is crucial for creating a dynamic passing attack and providing another target for the quarterback. Depth is also essential; if Pickens were to suffer an injury, the passing game would struggle immensely without another go-to wide receiver.

The front office will recognize the necessity of strengthening the wide receiver position to make sure that this offense has all the tools to succeed. Bringing in a starting-caliber receiver would elevate the passing game and offer insurance against potential injuries to key players like Pickens. Addressing the wide receiver position further is an inevitable and essential move for the Steelers this training camp.

Additional corner added during final roster cuts

Just like last year when the Steelers picked up Desmond King after he was cut from the Texans during training camp, I think they might do something similar this year. Every year, as teams trim down their rosters, there are always talented players who end up being released.

The Steelers could use this opportunity to find some additional help at cornerback. Right now, with Cameron Sutton suspended and no other reliable slot corner on the roster, they're really lacking options. It makes sense for them to look at players who become available and could fill that role effectively.

Arthur Smith's love of tight ends

The tight end position holds significant value in Arthur Smith's offense, and the Steelers boast a formidable trio in Pat Freirmuth, Darnell Washington, and Connor Heyward. Adding to their strength, the Steelers secured MyCole Pruitt during the offseason, a player familiar to Smith from their time together in Tennessee and Atlanta. Pruitt's established rapport with Smith ensures his place on the final roster, expanding the Steelers' tight end group to four.

In Smith's scheme, tight ends are poised to play a pivotal role, leveraging their diverse skill sets in various capacities. This versatility allows the Steelers to capitalize on their strengths, employing each player uniquely to maximize offensive effectiveness.
