Steelers should trade for LB Jabril Cox

With the decision to cut ties with Tanner Muse, the Pittsburgh Steelers suddenly have an unexpected team at the off-ball linebacker position. Muse is a player that many predicted would make the final roster as the team's fifth linebacker, but the Steelers apparently weren't as high on him as the media was.

It's possible that Mike Tomlin and defensive coordinator Teryl Austin could collectively agree to keep one fewer player at the linebacker position this year. However, this would go against the trend, as the Steelers haven't done this since 2017 when they had very reliable players at the position like Ryan Shazier and Vince Williams.

If they are indeed looking for a fifth linebacker to round out their roster, Jabril Cox could be another Cowboys player they could trade for. Cox was a fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, but many thought the North Dakota State and LSU product could have been taken higher.

Cox did suffer an ACL tear back in 2021 but he's since been back and healthy. Over the past two seasons, the athletic linebacker has logged 308 special teams snaps. He could be ideally suited for the final off-ball linebacker job in Pittsburgh, and it may only cost the Steelers a conditional late-round pick.
