2. Steelers could trade CB Levi Wallace

This seems a little counterintuitive when you first consider that the Steelers could trade Levi Wallace after already cutting Ahkello Witherspoon, but it's not that hard to figure out why this could be a possibility if things go according to plan at the cornerback position.

Pittsburgh allowed their top cornerback, Cameron Sutton, to walk away and sign with the Lions in free agency. However, they essentially replaced him this offseason with a duo of cornerbacks in Patrick Peterson and Joey Porter Jr. In addition to these two acquisitions, the Steelers landed a toolsy player on Day 3 of the NFL Draft in Cory Trice Jr.

Even after releasing Witherspoon, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a cornerback room full of long, boundary CBs. This team wants to play a lot of man coverage, and that's not Levi Wallace's forte. If the Steelers allow the talent to win out in training camp and Trice impresses them at practice early in the season, it's possible that Wallace could become expendable (much like Chase Claypool was at the wide receiver position last year).

It's also not out of the question for Pittsburgh to add another cornerback to the mix (perhaps a guy who can play the slot role), and they might like to keep James Pierre around for special teams duties. Wallace doesn't offer anything in this department, so if he loses his starting job, he becomes very replaceable. The Steelers could exchange him for a future Day 3 draft pick.
