4. CB Levi Wallace
When compared to starting NFL cornerbacks, Levi Wallace's contract is at least very reasonable. The veteran cornerback earned a total of $5,482,500 during the 2023 season. But I would argue that this cornerback shouldn't have even been on an NFL roster due to how poor the performance was on the field.
For the exact same price tag, the Steelers could have kept veteran CB Ahkello Witherspoon. They had a choice to make and they opted to go with the healthier player who started more games for them in the previous season. This was the wrong choice.
Witherspoon has been a very respectable defender in LA -- which is more than what can be said for most of his new teammates. Unfortunately, Wallace was one of the worst cornerbacks in the league in 2023 prior to being demoted on the depth chart.
Wallace simply does not have the recovery speed or lateral quickness to play the cornerback position at an NFL level. This was a complete waste of nearly $5.5 million for the Steelers in 2023, and Wallace really hurt this team in both run defense and in the passing game often this year. Pittsburgh would have been better if he was never on the roster in 2023. Wallace has an expiring contract heading into the New Year and there's not a chance the Steelers bring him back. Too bad he already robbed them.
