3. Gervon Dexter fits the mold for the Steelers

A name I have been focused on early in the draft process, Gervon Dexter is a rare breed of college lineman. While more schemes are focused on using undersized pass rushers, Dexter is a throwback to the size and power of defensive linemen from old. For a Steelers team that likes to have that size in their defensive ends, Dexter fits the mold perfectly.

That was all before he tested as an incredible athlete. He was one of the best linemen on the practice field, moving well for a player of his size. His college tape shows that he needs some work, specifically as a pass rusher, but Dexter would be a fine developmental prospect that grows into the defensive end role over time.

Assuming the Steelers look elsewhere with their top pick, Dexter should be circled as a day two option at defensive end. He shouldn’t start right away, but he can rotate in on run-downs and grow as a pass rusher in this defense. For a team that has lacked a capable option next to Cameron Heyward, Dexter has to be an easy name to circle for the Steelers moving forward.
