The Steelers could move on from a veteran at inside linebacker

There is currently a logjam at inside linebacker for the Steelers and there is not much difference between some of the bottom guys. Would seemingly be safe to say that the black and gold will probably keep around five players at the position when everything is set. That will leave a couple of names off the club that many thought might make it.

It is safe to assume that Cole Holcomb will be the starting three down linebacker for this defense. It is also safe to predict that Elandon Roberts, Kwon Alexander, and Mark Robinson will make this team coming out of the preseason. Those are four names right there that seem to have their roster spot safe right now.

Pittsburgh will have to figure out how many linebackers they want to keep on this team, but five seems like a fair number. That will lead to a tough competition between Nick Kwiatkoski and Tanner Muse for the final spot to make the team. Both have shown their strengths to the coaching staff, and both had solid performances in the first preseason game.

Muse could lose his spot though if he is not able to step up his game in weeks two and three of the preseason. His strength is his ability to play quality special teams snaps and add some coverage ability if needed on defense. That is his biggest positive over Kwiatkoski as he has shown the ability to provide more of a run stuffer style that Pittsburgh already has a ton of.
