The preseason is now over and the Steelers will be preparing for their first game of the season. Before they can completely turn their attention towards Atlanta, they need to set their 53-man roster. They will have plenty of chances to upgrade their roster this week, but they will also have to make some tough internal decisions as well.

This is always a nerve-wracking time for the bottom-of-the-roster players. Pittsburgh will have to make some big decisions going forward. Some dreams might come to an end while others will have their actual vision become reality. After their final game against the Lions, these players listed should feel fairly confident about making the Steelers roster.

These Steelers have little to worry about when roster cuts come through

RB Cordarrelle Patterson

His roster spot was never in question, but Cordarrelle Patterson secured his job against Detroit. He missed a ton of time during the preseason, but he remains an explosive playmaker both on special teams and at the running back position. The Steelers seem to like him and hold him in high regard. Patterson will make the roster and could play a big role in Week 1.

DL DeMarvin Leal

It would shock many if they saw this article at the start of training camp. Many had DeMarvin Leal on the outside looking in when it came to him making the roster. He proved the doubters wrong and played great throughout camp and in preseason action. Leal not only won a spot on the team, but he earned playing time on defense too.

OL Spencer Anderson

With Dylan Cook likely starting the season on IR, the depth battles along the interior of the offensive line aren't as contentious. Spencer Anderson seemed like a lock to make the team before Cook's injury news broke, but this only solidifies that spot for him. Anderson proved that he can be a quality depth option at guard and potentially center. He also played some tackle this preseason.

CB Cory Trice Jr.

It was a big year for Cory Trice Jr., and he made the most of his opportunities. He not only made the roster, but he climbed the depth chart to become the top backup at outside cornerback. The former seventh-round selection of the Steelers looks the part and started to show that he could become a starter at some point. Trice could be a diamond in the rough if he keeps this up.

WR Dez Fitzpatrick

Will the Steelers bring in a receiver or two this week? That could affect a couple of jobs in the receiver room if they do that. Both Scotty Miller and Dez Fitzpatrick have made great cases for making the 53-man roster, but it seems like it might come down to one or the other making the team. Dez Fitzpatrick looks like he has the inside track after showing quality play on special teams.
